ARRIVAL:

Check in at the Guest House at the old harbour in Hermanus any time after 14h00. Guests will be met by their guides at 17h30 prior to dinner.

The Route:

DAY 1:

After breakfast at 08h00 you will be collected by your guides and shuttled to the Fernkloof Nature Reserve where you will view the fynbos display at the beginning of the hike. The party proceeds up to the ridge with its stunning views of the Hermanus coastline and then descends into the beautiful Hemel and Aarde Valley, well known for its quality wines. A picnic lunch will be served at one of the wineries followed by a wine tasting. Guests are then shuttled to Hermanus for a casual walk along the coastline to the Guest House or alternatively enjoy a visit to the local Abalone Factory.

DAY 2:

SONY DSC After breakfast at 08h00 guests will be transported to Rooisand Nature Reserve and walk alongside the Bot River Estuary to the bird hide. Guests will proceed past the elusive wild horses to the dunes and then along the beach to Kleinmond Lagoon. We continue along the boardwalk viewing the rocky coastline to Kleinmond Harbour where a light lunch will be served. After lunch, guests will continue along the boardwalk to the Palmiet River Mouth and Estuary and then follow the Palmiet River to overnight at the award winning Eco Cottages of Oudebosch Nature Reserve, depending on availability.
Moderate, beach walk, level to gentle uphill.

DAY 3:

After breakfast  we walk the Palmiet River Loop with a local botanist. This valley has an astounding variety of fynbos and enormous pools. Picnic lunch will be served back at Oudebosch. After lunch  we walk from Oudebosch up the valley, through the Indigenous Forest, past the top of Luipaardskloof waterfall, down the zigzag path into the Harold Porter Botanical Gardens where we will be shuttled to your next Guest House.
Moderate to energetic.

DAY 4:

DSC05698 (1)s After breakfast guests will head to Dawidskraal and onto the beach where we will hear about the  endangered Oystercatcher. We then walk to Stoney Point where we spend time with the penguins. Lunch will be served at Pringle Bay where we then hike through the Brodie Link Reserve back to the Guest House where the guides will say goodbye.
Relaxed day, moderate walking.

THIS WHOLE AREA OFFERS AN INCREDIBLE BIODIVERSITY AND BREATHTAKING SCENERY. BE WARNED HOWEVER, THAT THE WEATHER WILL PLAY AN IMPORTANT ROLE AS THIS AREA IS ALONGSIDE THE COAST AND PRONE TO SEASONAL WINDS AND UNSETTLED CONDITIONS. GUESTS ARE WELL ADVISED TO HAVE SUITABLE ATTIRE FOR ALL CONDITIONS. ADVERSE WEATHER COULD INFLUENCE A CHANGE TO THE HIKING PLAN AFTER CONSULTING WITH THE GROUP.
